Massage treatments in Barnoldswick

Sports massage, deep tissue, sports injury treatment, kinesiology taping, cupping, Swedish massage and lymphatic drainage — all from one treatment room in Barnoldswick. Every session begins with a conversation about what is going on and what you want from the time, so think of the list below as a starting point rather than a menu.

Sports & recovery

01

Sports Massage

Firm, targeted deep tissue work on the muscle groups you use most. Suited to runners, lifters, cyclists, and anyone whose work is physical. Valuable before an event, more so afterwards, and most effective as something regular.

02

Sports Injury Treatment

Focused soft tissue work around a specific problem — the hamstring that keeps tightening, the shoulder that will not rotate freely, the calf that keeps going.

03

Kinesiology Taping

The supportive tape you will have seen on athletes. It takes load off a healing area while still allowing movement. Applied at the end of a session where it will help.

04

Cupping Treatment

Suction cups used to lift and decompress tight tissue, rather than pressing down into it. Often effective on backs and shoulders that have not responded to massage alone. It can leave circular marks for a few days.

Relaxation & wellbeing

05

Swedish Massage

Flowing, full-body massage at a pressure that suits you. The treatment to choose when the aim is to switch off rather than to fix something specific.

06

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Very light, rhythmic work supporting the body's lymphatic system. Often chosen for puffiness and fluid retention.

How long should I book?

If you are choosing between two lengths, the longer one will do more. That is the whole reason the price list is built on time.

Length Suited to
30 minutes A single area — a neck, a calf, a shoulder
45 minutes One area with time to work properly, or a focused back treatment
60 minutes A full treatment
90 minutes Full body, or two areas without cutting either short
120 minutes Full body, unhurried, with time to work into everything

Choosing a treatment

Sports massage or deep tissue massage — what is the difference?

Deep tissue describes the pressure; sports massage describes the approach. A deep tissue massage usually works broadly across the back, shoulders or legs to release long-held tension. A sports massage tends to focus on a specific area and adds movement and stretching to it. In practice the two overlap, and most sessions here borrow from both. Tell me what is bothering you and I will choose the right approach.

How often should I have a sports massage?

As a general guide: if you train hard most days, roughly every week or two. If you train a few times a week, once a month tends to be enough. If you are working through a specific problem, sessions closer together at first usually get on top of it faster. If it is stress rather than sport, come when you need it.

Which treatment is best for stress rather than injury?

Swedish massage is the usual choice — flowing, full-body, and as gentle or as firm as you like it. Some people prefer a slower deep tissue treatment through the neck, shoulders and upper back, which is where tension tends to collect. Both work; it is a matter of preference.
